Program Overview

This two-year, part-time program designed for practitioners from across Canada who want to develop greater expertise in this dynamic area of law.

Students will have the opportunity to examine the theory and practice of family law, including international issues and non-adversarial methods of resolving family disputes. Well-established areas of family law as well as emerging areas, comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives will be explored.

Degree requirements

Option I: Coursework and Major Research Paper

  • The required course for Family Law
  • 24 additional credits of coursework, at least 18 of which must be from the Family Law specialization
  • A Major Research Paper (70 pages) in the Family Law field
  • Advanced Legal Research Workshop

 

Option II: Coursework Only

 

  • The required course for Family Law
  • 30 additional credits of coursework, at least 24 of which must be courses from the Family Law specialization
  • A Significant Research Paper (30 pages) as a means of evaluation for one of the courses in the Family Law specialization
